Math Games in Preschool
Are Math Games In Preschool Beneficial To Students?
Most preschool aged kids learn best through exploration and hands-on activities because they tend to have short attention spans and a lot of energy. Since this age group benefits so much from interactive instruction, playing math games in preschool is extremely beneficial to students.
When you incorporate math games into your classroom, you can still teach math but are also engaging your students. Create simple math games that have one or two elements. For this age group, non-competitive math games may be better. Make sure that you create a game in which every student can have a turn and that maintains their attention. Here are a few ideas for simple math games in preschool.
- Teach kids to recognize the numbers by writing numbers one through ten on cards. Make two cards for each number and spread the cards out face down. Kids turn over two cards at a time, looking for a match.
- They can practice sorting by sorting a pile of manipulatives by distinguishing feature, like color, size or shape. Make it a game by challenging kids to sort as fast as possible.
