Can I Take the G.E.D. Tests Online?

Presently, individuals can't take the General Educational Development (G.E.D.) Exam online, but there are many ways that you can take advantage of Internet while preparing for the G.E.D. In order for the G.E. D. test to be valid, a proctor must initiate the exam and it must occur at an official testing facility. Students outside the US and Canada have the option of taking the G.E.D. Tests online through a partnership between the G.E.D. Testing Service www.acenet.edu and Prometric Testing Centers www.prometric.com. Passing these tests can demonstrate English-language skills, competency in reading, and ability to interpret materials in numerous subject areas to potential employers. Individuals must be at least 17 years of age in order to take the G.E.D. Tests through the Prometric service. Visit the Prometric website to find out more about this computerized testing and to locate a testing center near you (if you live outside the US or Canada).

Online Practice Options

The Internet contains a number of resources designed to prepare individuals for the test. Some services that are offered through the Internet include: Official G.E.D practice exams, online tutorials and support groups, preparation classes, registration assistance, locations of local official G.E.D testing centers, G.E.D pretest training, and G.E.D study materials.

One good resource for learning more about online G.E.D classes is your local Department of Education website. They can suggest locations of centers near you that provide G.E.D practice exams and classes. Another resource is the G.E.D Testing Service found at the American Council on Education's website www.acenet.edu.
