8th Grade Vocabulary Test

How Can My Child Prepare For An 8th Grade Vocabulary Test?

Your child probably has to take 8th grade vocabulary tests fairly frequently. In addition to learning vocabulary in language arts, your child also has to learn content area vocabulary in science, social studies and math. One way your child can prepare for a vocabulary test is to make flashcards. Although your child can make traditional flashcards with index cards, he or she can also make online flashcards by using the tools at Scholastic or Flash Card Machine.

In addition to using flashcards, your child can also work with vocabulary words. If your child writes a sentence using each vocabulary word, he or she can use that sentence as a memory tool while taking the vocabulary test. Another way to work with vocabulary words is to complete a word map. You can download a blank word map template from Reading Quest.

Since many 8th graders enjoy socializing with their friends, your child may like to study for vocabulary with friends. One or two friends can get together and quiz each other.
