Primary Games
How Should I Choose Primary Games?
The primary grades are generally considered to be kindergarten through third grade. Although students grow tremendously in each grade, kids across the primary grades tend to share common characteristics. In particular, primary grade kids love playing games. When you're selecting primary games for your classroom, make sure they have the following features.
- Games should be easy to understand for all students. Many students this age aren't able to understand complex instructions. Make sure the game directions are easy to understand.
- Provide many opportunities for winning. Kids this age often don't lose well. They don't have to win all the time, but every kid should have the potential to win some of the time.
- Make sure every kid has the chance to participate. Choose games that can be played within the allotted time because many kids this age will get frustrated if they don't get a turn.
- Choose games that are interactive. Kids especially love games where they get to move around.
