Can I Find New York City Wide Test 7th Grade Reading Examples?

All students third through eighth grade in New York City take a state ELA (English Language Arts) test during the school year. This test assesses general ELA skills, including reading comprehension on a variety of passages. Students who do poorly on the state test or in class may attend summer school and take a city wide ELA test. The New York City Department of Education has a detailed guide of the types of materials covered on the city wide ELA test posted on its website. In short, students are expected to answer fifty multiple choice questions based on their reading of assorted passages. Each test has at least one creative, one informational and one functional passage.

The New York City Department of Education does not have reading examples available, but many other state tests have similar types of passages and make practice available for free. You can print sample reading tests from Texas or Illinois or print reading comprehension worksheets from EasyCBM.com.
