GED Nebraska: Earn Your Nebraska GED Diploma

What do Nebraska residents without a high school diploma stand to gain from passing the General Education Development (GED) exam? They may be able to earn a higher wage at their job, pursue a college education, and have an increased sense of personal satisfaction.
Eligibility
According to the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE), www.nde.state.ne.us, individuals must meet the following requirements in order to take the GED exam:
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older (age requirements may vary, check with your local testing center for more details)
- Must be a resident of Nebraska
- Must have withdrawn from a regular high school program for at least six months
- Not a high school graduate
Exam Format
The exam consists of five different subject sections taken over seven and a half hours:
- Language Arts - Writing
- A 45 minute essay question.
- Language Arts - Reading
- Mathematics (Part 1 and 2)
- A calculator may be used on Part 1 only.
- Science
- Social Studies
Scoring
The score ranges from a minimum of 200 to a maximum of 800 on each subject section. The minimum required on each section is 410. The total minimum required for all subject sections is 2050. Individuals may retake all or part of the exam until a passing score is achieved.
Registration and Fees
Registration must be completed at any official Nebraska testing center. There is a fee of $50 to take the exam (or $10 per section). Bring sufficient ID with your social security number and proof of residence. The State of Nebraska Department of Education, www.nde.state.ne.us, can provide a list of approved testing sites, as well as answer any additional questions about the GED exam process.
