Idaho GED Requirements

Eligibility

In order to take the GED exam you must:

Must be at least 18 years of age or older
Must be a resident of the Idaho
Must have withdrawn from high school at least six months ago
Not a high school graduate

Exam Format

The exam consists of five different subject sections taken over seven and a half hours:

Language Arts - Writing (includes 45 minute essay question)
Language Arts - Reading
Mathematics (calculators allowed on Part 1 of the exam, not on Part 2)
Science
Social Studies

Scoring

The score ranges from a minimum of 200 to a maximum of 800 on each subject section. The minimum required on each section is 410. The total minimum required for all subject sections is 2050. The whole exam, or individual sections, may be taken as many times as neeeded to receive a passing score.

Registration and Fees

Individuals must attend GED registration before signing up to take the GED tests. Call your local Adult Education/GED Program to make an appointment. Visit the State of Idaho Department of Education website, www.sde.state.id.us, to find the most convenient testing site. The fee is $75 for the GED exam. Bring the necessary photo ID along with your social security number and proof of residence.
