5th Grade Grammar Test

How Should My Child Prepare For A 5th Grade Grammar Test?

In 5th grade grammar lessons, children typically learn about parts of speech. They probably already know about nouns and verbs, but they also learn about adjectives and adverbs. They may also learn to identify the parts of a sentence, including the verb, subject and object.

Your child can prepare for a 5th grade grammar test by completing repetitive practice. Find out the topic of the test and make a worksheet that practices these skills. For example, if your child is learning to identify the subject and object of a sentence, you can write several simple sentences and have your child underline the subject and circle the object. You can also have him or her construct sentences. For example, tell him or her that 'Gina' is the subject and 'the house' is the object. Ask him or her to choose and verb and construct a sentence.

If your child will be tested on parts of speech, he or she can prepare by playing Grammar Gorillas and other grammar games. For more information on how to help your child prepare for a 5th grade grammar test, read 'Elementary Grammar: Learning Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives and Other Parts of Speech'.
