Third Grade Comprehension Worksheets

What's The Basic Design Of Third Grade Comprehension Worksheets?

By third grade, most students can comprehend basic texts but need to continue practicing their comprehension. You can accomplish this in several ways, including guided reading and other targeted lessons. One of the easiest ways to assess their progress, though, is to assign comprehension worksheets. The basic design of third grade comprehension worksheets typically follows this formula.

  • The worksheet usually has a short passage of 100-200 words. The passage is about a simple factual topic, like a certain animal or country.
  • There are five or six comprehension questions. Many teachers include multiple choice questions in order to work in a little test prep practice. Most of the comprehension questions are very direct.
  • The worksheet may end with an extended response question in which the student gives an opinion. For example, if the passage was about an animal, the extended response question might ask the student about his or her favorite animal.
