Teaching Children How to Count Money
What Materials Should I Use When Teaching Children How To Count Money?
When children are learning how to count money, it's best that they practice with real money or play money that looks very similar to real money. You can purchase play money from school supply companies or download free money from the Money Instructor.
Start by giving students pennies and letting them practice counting these small coins. Gradually add in other coins and dollar bills. Ask your students to use different combinations of coins and bills to create sums. You can give them additional practice by setting up a classroom store. Put prices on items or services around the classroom (like using the pencil sharpener) and let students use their play money to pay.
