What Are Three Study Habits That Will Help Kids Succeed In School?
Students who have strong study habits often succeed in school because they know how learn material successfully. Beginning in elementary school, students learn and practice study skills; by high school, most teachers expect students to have basic study habits. The following three study habits are especially essential for students who want to succeed in high school and beyond.
- Keep organized notes and materials. Students who have organized notes can find information more readily when studying and are less likely to lose important materials. Remind students to date and label all notes and study guides and to keep materials separated by class.
- Begin studying for tests early. Students who begin studying for tests at least three days in a row are able to learn material slowly and will have absorbed the material by test day. Students who cram the night before are often tired on test day and likely to forget important information.
- Study at a clean workspace with minimal distractions. At the beginning of each school year, students should select a quiet workspace that is well supplied with common school supplies, like paper clips, highlights and extra paper, pens and pencils. Students should choose a quiet spot that is away from distractions like the television. Many students may also want to turn off their computer while studying in order to avoid the pull of the Internet.
These study habits will help children study effectively and efficiently, which may lead to greater success in school.
