Middle School Study Skills
How Can I Promote Middle School Study Skills In My Classroom?
As a middle school teacher, you need to prepare your students for the independence of high school by teaching them study skills. Middle school study skills are very similar to the study skills needed in high school; the main difference is that middle school teachers provide more support.
You can promote middle school study skills by teaching your students how to make a study guide. Instead of giving students a study guide and letting them fill it in, spend class time making the study guide together. Show students several different formats for a study guide and encourage them to experiment in class. You can also assign students to make parts of the study guide for homework.
Begin making the study guide several days before the test. One of the most important study skills middle school students need to learn is to start studying for tests several days of class. By promoting this practice in your classroom, you will reinforce the importance of long term studying.
