Math Fraction Games
What Are Some Math Fraction Games?
The following fraction games are fun to incorporate into a math lesson:
- Double Dough
This fun baking game allows students to add and multiply fractions in order to double (or triple) an existing recipe. Prepare for baking by securing plenty of kitchen supplies such as measuring cups, bowls, utensils and baking pans. Have students provide their own if you'd like. Choose any baking recipe, and break students into baking teams. The first team to double the dough, prepare the food and report the accurate equations wins. For a noncompetitive version, assign students different recipes, start a bake sale or simply enjoy each team's creation! - Fraction Quilts
This art project and fraction game will help students to think critically about fractions, label fraction sections and divide evenly. The goal of this project is to make a fraction quilt, an artistic piece that is labeled by pattern or patch size. Materials can include various sizes of square colored paper or patterned fabric. For paper, the quilt pieces can be attached with a glue stick. With fabric, you can use staplers or sewing kits. Students will compete to design their own intricate quilt. On the backside of the quilt, students must label the fractional value of each patch as well as each section of similar patches. The class can vote on their favorite quilt. Votes can be based on artistic value as well as fractional accuracy on the labeled side.
