Fraction Helpers
My Students Need Fraction Helpers. What Should I Use?
Learning fractions can be challenging for students who are only used to whole numbers. Whole numbers are easy for kids to conceptualize because kids encounter visual representations of whole numbers on a daily basis. Fractions are a lot harder for kids to understand because fractions represent parts of a whole.
If your students need fraction helpers, you may want to give them some fraction strips. Fraction strips are long strips of paper that have units of fractions marked on them. Each strip represents one and is divided into an equal number of units. For example, you might have a fraction strip divided into half and another one divided into quarters. Your students can use the fraction strips to help them understand fraction addition and subtraction and equivalent fractions.
