California Education Remedial Math
What Services Are Provided In The California Education System For Remedial Math Students?
If you're child is struggling with math, you may want to discuss options with your child's teacher because he or she may qualify for special services. Children who qualify for remedial math services may go to summer school, be pulled out of class for small group instruction or be given testing accommodations.
You can find out if your child is performing at grade level by reviewing California's Curriculum Frameworks for Math. While you're reviewing the curriculum, make a note of the specific math topics that challenge your child the most. You can use this information when discussing special services with your child's teacher.
Your school or community may have a 21st Century Community Learning Center that he or she can visit to receive additional math help. The staff at these centers may be able to reteach lessons and help your child with homework.
You may want to hire a tutor to give your child additional remedial math support. Since most tutors work one-on-one with children, they can individualize instruction for your child. You can find tutors in California by browsing the list at SchoolTree.org.
