4th Grade Math Help with Elasped Time

How Can I Give My Child 4th Grade Math Help With Elapsed Time?

When students learn about elapsed time, they have to look at two clocks and figure out how much time has passed. This process is difficult for many students because they have to add and subtract times, which is different from typical arithmetic.

You can help your 4th grader practice elapsed time by setting two clocks at different times and asking him or her to figure out how much time has passed. Start with easy problems, like only ten or fifteen minutes of elapsed time, and then move to problems where the elapsed time is longer.

Your child can also complete elapsed time activities online. Harcourt School has an elapsed time activity that students complete online and a printable recording sheet for the answers. Shodor.org also has an interactive, digital elapsed time activity.

For paper and pencil practice, your child can complete the elapsed time worksheets from Ed Helper. Some of these worksheets are available for free while others require a site subscription.
