2nd Grade Reading Lessons
What Are Some 2nd Grade Reading Lessons?
When children start the 2nd grade, their level of reading expands. They start learning reading strategies, such as finding the main idea or making a prediction. The following is quick reading lesson to try at home:
The Who Chart
Objective: To organize thoughts and ideas about a story
Materials: A short passage or story, paper and pencils
Procedure: Create a chart that gives space for you and your child to fill in information for six categories as follows:
- Who
- What
- Where
- When
- Why
- How
After reading a story, you and your child should fill in the chart with words, pictures, symbols, questions, or sentences. It is up to you. You can even expand on this lesson by creating your own separate charts. Either way, share your results, and display your charts on the fridge!
