1st Grade Homework Helper
How Much Work Should A 1st Grade Homework Helper Do?
When 1st graders complete homework, they may need a homework helper to keep them on task. At such an early age, 1st graders often haven't developed the study skills that they need to complete homework on their own. As a homework helper, you should sit with students and encourage them to stay on task. If you notice that students are spending too long on a specific problem or question, you can guide them through it by gently showing them the answer.
While you help 1st graders with homework, try to teach them basic study skills. For example, if students are working on a math worksheet, show them how to use the example at the top of the worksheet to help them solve the rest of the problems.
You also may want to make sure that students' homework area is clean, well-stocked with school supplies and free of distractions. If 1st graders have a good study area, they are more likely to work efficiently.
