Will Study Skills Instruction Help Children In Remedial Learning Classes?

Many students in remedial learning classes have learning disabilities that make it hard for them to learn in the regular classroom. Teachers in remedial learning classrooms use special techniques like hands-on learning to reach students and help them improve their academics. Many children in remedial learning classes, however, may also need some study skills instruction because good study skills can help children overcome other academic challenges.

Teachers often begin by teaching children to fill out their assignment notebook every day and check it when they get home. You can help reinforce study skills by asking your child to show you his or her assignment notebook as soon as he or she gets home from school. You can also make sure that his or her school folders are organized and emptied out frequently. You may also want to help your child study for tests. Begin studying several days before the test and teach him or her how to make a study guide.
